Ladder to the Stars

Some people want to be president. Some want to be a world champion athlete, others the richest, smartest, or best looking. They have big plans! Jere Webb, while pastoring the collegiate church at Southern, said, “Most people start out to build a ladder to the stars, and end up throwing a plank across the ditch.” How's your ladder. . . ?

In our discussion of prayer, we find Jesus telling us to reach beyond ourselves, beyond our little earth, beyond the stars, “Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10. Talk about potential! God is willing to give us the power to do His will just as though we were in the throne room of the universe.

How do we get there? The answer is right in the prayer.

• “Your will be done.” This means we start with surrender. Give your life to Him at the start of each day.

• “On earth” Trust that God is able, even in our difficult circumstances, to make good things happen!

• “As it is in heaven” How would heaven handle this situation? Jesus is our perfect example of how to handle tough situations. Look to Him, follow His example, and He will lift you far beyond your best imagination.

You may never have the glory of this world. You may never be president. That's OK. I hear our last one just got offered a job at a hardware store now that he's out of work. Set your mind higher. Our Ladder extends beyond the stars.
