Darren is smoking a cigarette. Brian walks in.

Darren

Hey, Brian! How are you?

Brian

Fine.

Darren

Cigarette?

Brian

No thanks. I don’t smoke.

Darren

What’s the matter? Can’t handle it?

Brian

Of course I can handle it. I’m the coolest guy in town.

Darren

Why don’t you show me?

Brian takes a cigarette. Freeze characters.

Eric

Brian, this is your conscience speaking. What are you doing?

Brian

I’m having a cigarette. Is there a problem with that?

Eric

Yes. You know that cigarettes are bad for you.

Brian

I won’t overdo it.

Eric

You won’t be able to control this.

Brian

I can handle anything.

Unfreeze characters.

Brian

Got a light?

Darren

Sure.

Darren lights the cigarette for Brian.

Scene 2

Evan and Brian walk in. Brian is holding a lighted cigarette and coughing.

Evan

You all right, man?

Brian

I’ve just got a bit of a cough.

Evan

How many have you had today?

Brian

Four or five.

Evan

You have a serious problem, man.

Brian

Yeah I know. I really want to quit, but at the same time I still want to smoke.

Evan

You can’t control this on your own. You need help.

Brian

No thanks. I can deal with this on my own.

Scene 3

Brian is using an oxygen mask. He lights a cigarette and places it against the air intake tube.
